Tech 7

Excel
We will be spending several days learning how to work with spreadsheets in excel. We are not going to tackle this whole assignment at once so focus on getting the highlighted steps done. Make sure you save your in your tech folder as 'basketball stats'.

I encourage you to customize the info for CCHS (ie change team name and even player names)
Day 1     Day 2    Day 3
2010-2011 Basketball Player Statistics
  • Enter the data into a spreadsheet.
  • Insert the values and labels into the appropriate cells.
  • In the cells with a ?, develop an appropriate formula or function.
    • Total
    • Average
    • Points
  • Adjust the column widths as necessary to allow the data to fit into the cell.
  • After completing the spreadsheet, make the following changes:
    1. Change the font of the title in cells A1 to A3 to Times New Roman.
    2. Change the font size of the title in cells A1 to A3 to size 18.

Keywords. A key word is a word that is essential to communicating your need
“Maybe” words. There may be words that you don’t know if you need or not. There might be different ways of expressing the same idea (synonyms)

More Examples
  1. My three-year-old cow has blisters on its tongue. What’s wrong with it?
  2. Can I make a living tossing pizza for money?
  3. I heard there is an abandoned city in the San Francisco Bay. What is it called?

How-To Poster
If you need to make a poster on the computer the best program is publisher.  You can insert text boxes, pictures and shapes and arrange them however you want (much like if you were cutting and pasting and doing your poster on poster paper).  Choose a basic computer task and create a how-to poster explaining how to do it.  Make sure to use pictures, screen shots and color.

  • how to make an email address
  • how double space
  • How to attach a file to email

Welcome to Jr. Technology Class
This class is going to be a combination of a couple different things
  •  Typing practice (5%)
  • Computer Skills (40%)
  •  Digital Citizenship (40%)
  •  ??? You let me know some things you want to learn (15%)
Expectations
  •  No food in the computer lab
  •  Water is permitted as long as it is a sealable water bottle and kept on the floor so it can’t accidentally spill
  •  I know it’s tempting but don’t wheel around on the wheely chairs
  • No cell phones in class
  • No social media in class.

Ultimately I expect you to:
Be Prepared, Be On Time and Be Respectful

Organizing your files on the computer is an important tool to make finding things easier.  Your first task is to create a folder in your Z drive for each of your classes.  (3 marks)

Open up a word document.  Immediately save the document to the 'tech' folder on your Z drive.  The file name should be FirstLast (3 marks)

In this word document tell me some tech or computer related things you would like to learn during this course. Tell me what you think the term digital citizenship means (3 marks)

Once you have this completed follow the directions on the slip of paper you were handed to log into the typing course and spend time practicing your typing skills.  I will be checking on a weekly/every other week basis to see how you are progressing.  I expect that you will be spending about 15min/week (5-10 min per class) practicing your typing in this program.
